ABOUT OUR CLIENT AND THE ROLE

Our client is a well-established, growing Australian business seeking an experienced Accounts Payable & Payroll Officer to join their finance team.
Reporting to the Financial Controller and working within a small, supportive finance team, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day accounts payable function alongside processing payroll for both salaried and operational employees.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys transactional finance, has strong attention to detail and takes pride in getting things right. The business is continuing to grow, providing an opportunity to contribute to improvements in processes, systems and reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage end-to-end accounts payable processing, including invoice coding, approvals, reconciliations and payments
  • Process weekly and twice-monthly payroll for operational and salaried employees
  • Review timesheets and ensure accurate processing of overtime, allowances and award entitlements
  • Prepare payroll tax returns and assist with superannuation and other payroll compliance requirements
  • Prepare and process recipient-created tax invoices for subcontractors
  • Manage supplier queries and resolve invoice discrepancies
  • Complete daily bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end reconciliations and reporting
  • Use Excel to manipulate, reconcile and prepare data for system uploads
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate existing finance processes
  • Support the broader finance team with ad hoc accounting and administrative tasks
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Previous experience across both accounts payable and payroll, ideally with 5+ years in transactional finance roles
  • Strong end-to-end accounts payable experience, including high-volume invoice processing
  • Hands-on payroll experience with an understanding of awards, overtime, allowances and statutory obligations
  • Strong Excel skills, particularly manipulating large datasets, reconciliations and preparing data for system imports
  • Experience with MYOB Acumatica, HubSpot or similar systems will be highly regarded but isn't essential
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Comfortable working within a small finance team and taking responsibility for your own workload
  • A proactive approach to identifying inefficiencies and improving processes
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a growing business where processes and priorities continue to evolve
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts Payable & Payroll Officer who enjoys hands-on transactional finance and is looking for a stable, long-term position within a supportive team.
