ABOUT OUR CLIENT & THE ROLE
Our client is a government-aligned organisation providing essential registry and financial services. They are currently seeking a capable and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join their finance team. This position offers the opportunity to support month-end processes, financial reporting, and compliance functions while also assisting with accounts payable and receivable activities. The role would suit someone with a solid foundation in accounting processes who enjoys working in a dynamic environment with a collaborative and improvement-focused team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with general journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register, including depreciation accounting
- Reconcile corporate credit card transactions and staff reimbursements
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly management accounts, board reports, financial statements, BAS, and other tax-related reporting
- Assist with financial analysis, forecasting, and business case modelling
- Support invoicing and debtor management for government clients and contribute to financial reporting obligations to state government bodies
- Process invoices and support supplier and customer setup and maintenance
- Liaise with internal teams to ensure accurate coding, approvals, and documentation
- Participate in financial data cleansing, process improvement initiatives, and audit preparation
- Provide general administrative support across the finance function
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1-3 years experience post degree
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with familiarity in financial systems (experience with Sage is a plus)
- Sound understanding of financial processes and compliance reporting
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork
