As a result of ongoing growth and an ambitious revenue trajectory, they are now seeking a capable and commercially minded Financial Controller to lead the finance function and support the next phase of expansion.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Financial Controller is responsible for driving financial performance and supporting strategic decision making across the business. This is a hands on leadership role that combines traditional financial control with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and business partnering.
You will lead the end to end finance function, including statutory and management reporting, financial governance and compliance, cash flow and working capital management, as well as analysis and insights that drive commercial and operational outcomes. The role carries significant influence across the business, including involvement in project planning, contract evaluation, pricing, profitability analysis and business case development.
You will also lead a small finance team, oversee accounts payable and receivable, liaise with external accountants and auditors, and ensure strong internal controls, policies and financial processes are in place. Success in this role is defined by the accuracy, timeliness and reliability of financial reporting and the quality of strategic insight provided to leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
- Oversee general ledger management and month end and year end close processes
- Maintain compliance with all statutory obligations including BAS, GST, PAYG, payroll tax and superannuation
- Manage relationships with external accountants, tax advisers and auditors
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and commentary
- Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity and working capital, ensuring timely payments and strong debtor performance
- Provide financial modelling, scenario analysis and insights to support decision making
- Assist in evaluating commercial opportunities, tenders, bids and pricing models
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable and drive process improvement
- Develop, maintain and strengthen financial policies, controls and risk frameworks
- Identify and manage financial and operational risks
- Supervise, mentor and develop the accounts administrator and foster a culture of continuous improvement
- Work collaboratively with operations, sales, supply chain and leadership as a true business partner
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience in a senior finance role, ideally as a Financial Controller
- CA or CPA qualified
- Experience in a manufacturing or operationally focused industry is highly regarded
- Strong technical accounting foundation across reporting, compliance and financial control
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide clear, practical insights
- Experience managing and developing a small finance team
- Confidence partnering with operational and commercial stakeholders
- Strong understanding of ERP systems and financial processes
- Pragmatic, hands on leadership style with attention to detail
