ABOUT THE ROLEThe Head of Finance and Commercial plays a critical role in strengthening financial control, commercial analysis and long term planning across the business. Reporting directly to the Managing Director and sitting on the Executive Leadership Team, the role provides strategic insight, commercial leadership and operational support in a high accountability environment.
You will be responsible for building reliable forecasting models, improving data accuracy, lifting project level visibility, and ensuring financial information is robust, defendable and aligned to how a contracting business actually trades. This is a hands on, problem solving role with genuine autonomy to uplift systems, discipline, reporting and commercial capability across the organisation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the accuracy, structure and integrity of financial data across the business
- Strengthen month end close, reconciliations, management reporting and audit readiness
- Build defensible forecasting, scenario and sensitivity models that support decision making
- Improve visibility of pipeline conversion, margin performance, cash and capital impacts
- Lift project level financial insight, cost control and commercial outcomes across live projects
- Partner with operations to embed stronger accountability and uplift commercial capability
- Participate as a key ELT member influencing systems, structure, resourcing and long term growth strategy
- Build, mentor and develop a capable finance function aligned to the future needs of the business
- Strong technical finance capability with experience in project based, contracting or infrastructure environments
- CA or CPA qualified, ideally with foundations in a top tier accounting environment
- Demonstrated ability to build, interrogate and defend financial and commercial models
- Commercial mindset with the ability to balance accuracy, pace and pragmatism
- Experience improving imperfect data environments and building structure where needed
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex financial concepts clearly
- Highly analytical, structured thinker with comfort operating in ambiguity
