ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting directly to the CEO and partnering closely with the Executive Team and Board, you will establish and lead the legal, governance and risk function across the organisation, creating scalable frameworks that support growth while ensuring strong compliance and decision-making.
You will act as a trusted adviser across privacy, data governance, commercial contracting and corporate initiatives, helping embed practical and commercially sustainable legal practices across the business. This role is an initial 6 month contract with view to permanency for the right candidate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish and lead the organisation’s legal, governance and enterprise risk capability
- Build privacy and data governance frameworks across data acquisition, storage, use and compliance obligations
- Provide commercially focused legal advice across strategic business initiatives and regulatory matters
- Draft, negotiate and manage enterprise-level commercial agreements and corporate documentation
- Lead company secretarial responsibilities including Board support, governance processes and corporate records
- Develop practical policies, governance frameworks and education programs across the business
- Partner with executives to identify and mitigate legal, commercial and reputational risk
- Lead strategic initiatives including shareholder agreements, ESOP implementation and future growth activities
- Bachelor of Laws and admission to practice in Australia
- Significant post-qualification experience across commercial, corporate and privacy law
- Previous in-house experience highly regarded
- Demonstrated experience building legal, governance or compliance frameworks within growth-stage, technology, data or regulated environments
- Strong understanding of privacy regulation, information governance and data risk principles
- Experience advising Boards and executive stakeholders
- Exposure to shareholder arrangements, governance structures and equity incentive programs (including ESOPs)
- Strong commercial judgement with the ability to balance risk and business outcomes
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing capability
- Comfortable operating autonomously while building scalable capability
