Due to continued growth and internal evolution, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Industrial Design professional to step into a leadership-focused role within the design team.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This newly created position will play a key role in leading and supporting a small team of Industrial Designers while continuing to contribute hands-on to design delivery.
Situated in Melbourne's Southeast Suburbs with plenty of parking, the role is both creative and strategic. It will require someone who can balance leadership, client collaboration, and technical design expertise.
You will work closely with internal teams including sales, project management, and production to ensure innovative design concepts translate into practical, manufacturable retail display solutions.
As a senior member of the design function, you will also assist in coordinating workflow across the team, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently while maintaining a high standard of design output.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and mentor a small team of Industrial Designers
- Coordinate and delegate design workload across the team
- Develop creative retail display and fixture solutions aligned with client requirements
- Prepare and present design concepts, sketches, 3D models, and technical drawings
- Work closely with sales teams and clients to translate ideas into practical solutions
- Collaborate with production and project teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective
- Contribute hands-on to design work when required
- Manage project timelines and maintain high design standards across the team
- Provide input throughout the project lifecycle from concept to delivery
- Act as an internal technical resource, supporting some IT-related systems and tools
- Approximately 5+ years' experience in Industrial Design
- Strong experience with 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks
- Experience designing retail displays, fixtures, or similar physical products is highly regarded
- Demonstrated ability to manage or guide design workflow within a team environment
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with both internal stakeholders and clients
- Practical understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and cost considerations
- Ability to balance creativity with technical feasibility and commercial outcomes
- A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving capability
