ABOUT OUR CLIENT

Our client is a well-established national services business operating across multiple Australian states, supporting large-scale infrastructure, construction and maintenance projects. With a workforce of more than 800 employees and continued growth through expansion and acquisition, they are seeking a  Payroll Officer to join their team in Geelong.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this newly created role has been established to provide additional support within a busy payroll function processing weekly payroll. Initially focused on Victoria, you will play a key role in ensuring payroll is processed accurately, on time and in line with relevant awards, enterprise agreements and legislative requirements. The position offers the opportunity to develop into a broader national payroll role over time as you build your knowledge of the business and payroll framework.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process end-to-end weekly payroll for a large workforce across multiple locations
  • Review, validate and reconcile timesheet data prior to payroll processing
  • Calculate wages, overtime, allowances, penalties and deductions in accordance with awards and EBA requirements
  • Process employee commencements, variations, terminations and final payments
  • Assist with payroll tax, superannuation, portable long service leave and other statutory obligations
  • Prepare payroll reconciliations and support year-end payroll activities
  • Respond to employee payroll enquiries and resolve payroll-related issues
  • Maintain payroll records, employee data and system accuracy
  • Produce payroll reports and assist with payroll compliance activities
  • Contribute to payroll process improvements and system efficiencies
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Previous experience in a high-volume end-to-end payroll position
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, compliance requirements and statutory obligations
  • Experience interpreting awards, enterprise agreements and employment conditions
  • Exposure to construction, infrastructure, labour hire, industrial or blue-collar environments will be highly regarded
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent numerical accuracy
  • Confident working with payroll systems and large datasets
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across all levels of a business
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict payroll deadlines
  • A team-oriented approach with a willingness to learn and contribute
