ABOUT OUR CLIENT & THE ROLE
Our client is a progressive, growth-focused accounting and advisory firm supporting ambitious business owners across Australia. With a strong emphasis on technical excellence, process consistency, and team development, they operate in a flexible, remote-first environment while maintaining high standards of delivery and client service.
They are now seeking a Tax and Compliance Manager to take full ownership of the firm’s tax function. This is a senior leadership role focused on reviewing and signing off compliance work, driving technical quality, mentoring the team, and ensuring deadlines are consistently met. You will act as the in-house tax specialist, shaping internal capability while contributing to broader business strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Own and oversee the end-to-end tax compliance workflow, including review and sign-off of all jobs
• Ensure accuracy, consistency, and technical quality across all tax engagements
• Lead tax training and development initiatives across the accounting team
• Mentor and support junior, intermediate, and senior accountants, both local and offshore
• Manage lodgement calendars and ensure all ATO deadlines are met
• Stay across legislative changes and communicate relevant updates internally
• Contribute to process improvement and SOP development across the firm
• Participate in leadership discussions and contribute to strategic direction
• Identify opportunities for additional advisory services and flag to relevant teams
• Support client conversations on technical tax matters where required

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• CA or CPA qualified
• Registered Tax Agent
• 10+ years’ experience in Australian public practice accounting
• Strong background in tax compliance and review across companies, trusts, individuals, partnerships, and SMSFs
• Proven experience mentoring and developing accountants
• Deep understanding of Australian tax legislation and ATO requirements
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly
• Highly organised with strong time management and attention to detail
• Comfortable working autonomously in a flexible or remote environment
• Experience with systems such as Xero, Xero Tax, XPM, Karbon, BGL and similar tools
